Ponderosa Dental Care is a rural, community-anchored dental clinic serving patients of all ages across Missoula and the surrounding Northwest Montana region. Operating on the second floor of a small rural hospital at 500 W Broadway St, the practice is built around a singular mission: bringing comprehensive, dignified oral health care to a population that has historically lacked consistent access to dental services.
The clinic operates by appointment, though same-day emergency dental care is available. Dentists build long-term relationships with patients and their families — tracking dental histories across generations. Services span the full continuum of oral health: prevention, education, restorative care, endodontics, oral surgery, pediatric dentistry, orthodontic screening, and oral health for medically complex patients.
The practice's identity is rooted in the landscape and character of Montana — unhurried, grounded, community-first. The design must communicate trust and warmth before a patient even meets a provider.

Sp'itl'um
Named for the Salish word for bitterroot, Montana's state flower, Sp'itl'um is a concept rooted in the raw landscape of Missoula. Like the bitterroot that pushes through frozen ground before spring arrives, this clinic grows from hard soil, offering care where it is needed most.
The design draws from three forces of the Montana landscape. Stone speaks to permanence and solidity, the ancient glacial rock that has held this valley for thousands of years, grounding every space in weight and stillness. The Clark Fork River speaks to movement and continuity, guiding the patient journey through the clinic the way water finds its path through a canyon, always forward, always purposeful. The ponderosa pine speaks to warmth and shelter, its amber bark and open canopy creating the feeling of standing in a forest rather than a facility.
